High Alert Emergency Preparedness, LLC (HAER Prep), pronounced “Higher Prep,” officially launched on November 4, 2019, born from a powerful blend of lived experience, professional training, and an unwavering commitment to community resilience. As a HUD Section 3 registered, disabled, disadvantaged, Black woman-owned small business, HAER Prep was founded in the heart of Park Morton, located in Washington, D.C.’s Ward 1.
The vision for HAER Prep was shaped by years of being on the front lines—both personally and professionally—when emergencies struck. From preparing loved ones for crises to responding in real time, the founder’s passion for readiness became a calling.
After earning certifications from FEMA, CERT, and the Department of Homeland Security, she developed and led her first Emergency Preparedness seminar in her own community. That seminar sparked a movement, expanding to other public housing communities such as Potomac Gardens and Hopkins Apartments.
HAER Prep emerged not just as a business, but as a mission: to educate, empower, and equip individuals—especially those in underserved communities—with the tools and knowledge to stay ready when disaster strikes. From in-person seminars to virtual webinars during the COVID-19 pandemic, HAER Prep has remained a trusted source of guidance, advocacy, and action.
This is more than preparedness. This is purpose in motion.
The fight-flight-or-fear response is real—and in moments of crisis, some rely on others to act swiftly and decisively. While attending the Redman and Method Man concert at the Howard Theatre, I witnessed a man beside me exhibiting clear signs of overheating and dehydration. Without hesitation, I began administering immediate care while signaling to those nearby to alert emergency personnel. Although paramedics were stationed at the rear of the venue and I was positioned near the front, we coordinated quickly to ensure he received the medical attention he needed.
I captured only a few seconds of video—not for documentation, but because every remaining moment was dedicated to providing care. This experience stands as a testament to my readiness: when emergencies arise, I respond instinctively and without delay.
As the Founder of High Alert Emergency Preparedness, LLC (HAER Prep) and the now-retired President of the Council @ at Park Morton, I’ve made it a priority to empower my community with life-saving skills. I actively encouraged residents, neighbors, and local leaders to pursue certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED—tools that can make the difference between life and loss in critical moments.
This mission became personal when I urged my own child to take the course. With determination and focus, she listened, followed every step, and fully participated in the training. At just six years old, she became the youngest member of the Park Morton community to earn her certification. The young boy in attendance followed closely as the second youngest, proving that preparedness knows no age.
